Magnetic Thread Tensioning

Using magnets gives a far smooth thread tensioning system with none of that juddering start-up inertia associated with traditional spring tensioning found on most commercial and home-built wrapping jigs. I've found that neodymium magnets with dimensions of 25mm x 4mm with 6mm holes are the right size for me and have so far fitted my CRB and Alps wrappers, giving the perfect tension and adjustability. It’s very straightforward to retrofit on virtually any thread carriage that uses springs to tension, find the ring magnet with the correct inner diameter hole and mount them pole to pole.

The image below shows a dual magnet set up on the popular CRB hand wrapper.
